Bowl Game Gambling Picks

Mitsubishi Motors Las Vegas Bowl
Arizona State +4 vs. Fresno State

Herm Edwards did a solid job at ASU in year 1. I expect the Sundevils to keep the momentum going heading into next year with a nice win over the best group of 5 team not named Central Florida in America. The plus 4 is just a nice insurance policy as the Sundevils win this game outright 27-24.

Jared Birmingham Bowl
Memphis -4.5 vs. Wake Forest

I really liked the way Memphis played down the stretch as they gave a real scare to UCF in the American Conference Championship game. Wake seems dull to me like most ACC schools not named Clemson. I think Memphis wins in a route 44-28.

Servpro First Responder  Bowl
Boise State -2.5 vs. Boston College

“Uncle” Steve Addazio was awarded a contract extension, keeping him in Chestnut Hill through 2022. With that being said I was underwhelmed by Boston College at the end of the season and Boise always travels well for bowl games. Expect the Broncos to win going away 38-24.

Quick Lane Bowl
Minnesota +4 vs. Georgia Tech

The Gophers are reportedly suspending 6-8 players for this game according to the Star Tribune and linebacker and leading tackler Blake Cashman and offensive tackle Donnell Greene will skip the game to prepare for the NFL draft. It won’t matter as the Gophers will showcase their talented young players and be energized playing in a bowl for the first time in the P.J. Fleck era. Georgia Tech is bored and will have little motivation even with this being Paul Johnson’s last game with the Yellowjackets (Johnson is retiring after the season). Gophers outright 31-30.

Cheez-It Bowl
Cal PK vs. TCU

TCU isn’t very good offensively and Cal is stout on D so expect the Bears to shut down the TCU attack and score just enough to win 21-13.

Walk-On’s Independence Bowl
Duke +3.5 vs. Temple

With Temple coach Geoff Collins leaving for Georgia Tech it will be interesting to see where the Owls motivation and head is. Expect the consistent Blue Devils, lead by the consistent David Cutcliffe to prevail here 28-20.

New Era Pinstripe Bowl
Wisconsin +4 vs. Miami

This one should be rather ugly and will be a repeat after these two played one another last year in a 34-24 triumph for the Badgers in the Orange Bowl. This game should be much more low scoring as both offenses are struggling. Miami wins 23-21 with the Badgers covering the 4.

Academy Sports + Outdoors Texas Bowl
Baylor +3.5 vs. Vanderbilt

I like Baylor’s motivation here going to a bowl game for the first time under Matt Rhule after suffering to a 1-11 record just a year ago. Vandy has gotten stale lately and the Bears take advantage of a lethargic effort from the Commodores to win outright 34-31.

Franklin American Mortgage Music City Bowl
Purdue +4 vs. Auburn

Purdue will come out guns a blazing for Jeff Brohm as the Boilermakers will have all the motivation in the world to play for their coach who chose them over his hometown and alma mater Louisville Cardinals. Meanwhile, Auburn is searching for a reason to get rid of Gus Mulzahn. In fact, if it weren’t for his enormous buyout he’d already be gone. Purdue 27, Auburn 23.

Camping World Bowl
Syracuse +2 vs. West Virginia

This will be an offensive showcase that could provide the most entertainment in bowl season. I’ll go with Dino and the Cuse over Holgie and the Eers 55-52. Get your popcorn and a case of Natty for this one.

Valero Alamo Bowl
Washington State -3.5 vs. Iowa State

Mike Leach and his air raid offense in a climate controlled environment in San Antonio. Yes, please. Cougs, bigly 34-21.

Chick-Fil-A Peach Bowl
Michigan -7.5 vs. Florida

Michigan should win this one comfortably. The Gators played “Michigan Light” and that team was Kentucky and got steamrolled. The Wolverines absolutely own bad offensive teams and the Gators have a bad offense and a terrible quarterback in Feleipe Franks. Michigan shuts down Florida 24-7.

Belk Bowl
South Carolina -4 vs. Virginia

Quick question. Does anyone even know Virginia has a football program? Outside of ACC fans, that’s a legit question. They are coached by former BYU coach Bronco Mendenhall, I guess. South Carolina might have the best fanbase in the country that deals with mediocrity on a yearly basis. They certainly deserve better. They get a mediocre bowl win over Virginia 34-28.

Goodyear Cotton Bowl Classic - CFP Semifinal
Notre Dame +12 vs. Clemson

Clemson is Alabama Light. I think the Irish will keep Clemson freshman quarterback Trevor Lawrence in check and force running back Travis Etienne to beat them and he will, barely. Clemson 23, Notre Dame 21

Capital One Orange Bowl - CFP Semifinal
Oklahoma +14 vs. Alabama

Oklahoma will score a ton of points. Alabama will score as many points as they want. Tide 55-42.

Military Bowl
Cincinnati -5 vs. Virginia Tech

Virginia Tech has been a disappointment under Coach Justin Fuente. Bud Foster’s defense has been horrendous at times. Bearcats 38-31.

Hyundai Sun Bowl
Stanford -6.5 vs. Pitt

Pitt won their division of the ACC. That is a testament to how crappy the ACC is, not that Pitt is good or surprising. Stanford mows the Panthers 42-20.

Redbox Bowl
Oregon -2.5 vs. Michigan State

Michigan State can’t score, literally. So how are you going to outpace the Ducks? Oregon 30, Sparty 13.

Autozone Liberty Bowl
Oklahoma State +8 vs. Missouri

Oklahoma State and Missouri are nearly identical teams. Both are revved up offensively and can’t play a lick of defense. Mizzou 45, OSU 41 in a fireworks show.

San Diego County Credit Union Holiday Bowl
Northwestern +7 vs. Utah (The Sure Thing)

Northwestern and Utah are mirror images of each other. Both are overachievers with great leadership. So why is Northwestern getting 7 points? I think this is a pick em game. Cats prevail over the Utes 24-20.

Taxslayer Gator Bowl
Texas A&M -4.5 vs. North Carolina State

North Carolina State may have had the least impressive 9-3 record in the history of college football. They won 9 games and I don’t remember any of them. Texas A&M meanwhile has a lot of energy with Coach Jimbo Fisher. Aggies prevail over the Wolfpack 28-23

Outback Bowl
Iowa +7 vs. Mississippi State

Iowa and Mississippi State are very similar teams. Pedestrian on offense with staunch defenses. Iowa however, is much more consistent. Iowa getting 7 is a gift. Hawkeyes win outright 17-12.

Playstation Fiesta Bowl
UCF +7.5 vs. LSU

Central Florida will be motivated to prove everyone wrong. No one believes in the Knights, or at least that’s what they think. UCF’s motivation makes this one really close and they end up pulling the outright upset over LSU 33-31.

VRBO Citrus Bowl
Penn State -6.5 vs. Kentucky

Kentucky had their best season since 1984, yet I wasn’t impressed. Penn State wins big here 35-20.

Rose Bowl Presented by Northwestern Mutual
Ohio State -6.5 vs. Washington

The Buckeyes will play hard in Urban Meyer’s last game and crush Washington. The Huskies are a poor man’s Michigan. You do the math. Buckeyes 44-27.

AllState Sugar Bowl
UGA -11 vs. Texas

Georgia is just a much better all-around football team than Texas and they win going away 35-21.
