Pac 12 Over/Unders

Arizona - 7 wins

My bet - Under

I don’t think the Wildcats come close to 7 wins. This looks like a 4-5 win team. I’m surprised this number hasn’t been bet down.

Khalil Tate was a mess last year and unless Kevin Sumlin utilizes his strength running the football the Wildcats will continue to struggle.

Arizona State - 7 wins

My bet - Under

The Sundevils are such a wildcard. I’m really just not sure what to expect of Herm Edwards in year 2 at ASU. Herm exceeded everyone’s expectations in year 1 however, I think part of that was having a senior quarterback in Manny Wilkens and a stud WR in N’Keal Harry.

What will ASU produce this year in what feels like is an opportunity for Herm to put his own stamp on this program? I think they fall just shy of 7 wins but get to a bowl game after a 6-6 season.

Utah - 9 wins

My bet - Over

The Pac 12 South is very mediocre and there is an opportunity for a well coached, stable program like Utah to take advantage of that. I’m betting on Coach Whittingham to take advantage and win double digits this year.

Colorado - 4.5 wins

My bet - Over

The Buffs have the most difficult schedule of any Pac 12 team. With that being said the combination of Steven Montez, Laviska Shenault, and K.D. Nixon is enough firepower to get the Buffs to 5 or 6 wins despite the difficult schedule. Sprinkle in Mel Tucker’s tough, physical defense and I think Colorado may be the surprise of the Pac 12 in 2019.

Oregon State - 2 wins

My bet - Over

The schedule is daunting, but I saw a lot I liked in Jonathan Smith’s first year in Corvallis. So much so that I think they continue on an upward trajectory and win 3 or 4 games after winning 2 in 2018.

Oregon - 8.5 wins

My bet - Under

The Ducks are a trendy pick this year to win the Pac 12 and contend for a spot in the CFP. I think that is nonsense. They lost one of the best defensive coordinators in the country in Jim Leavitt so I can assure you the defense will take a step back. Oregon also needs Justin Herbert to stay healthy to challenge for a 9-10 win season. I think that is asking too much and the Ducks fall short. Expect a lot of 42-38 type games and an 8-4 record.

Washington - 9.5 wins

My bet - Over

Go ahead and bet on coaches that are over their skis like Ed Orgeron and Mario Cristobal. I’ll bet the coaches that have been getting it done for a long time like Chris Petersen.

Coach Pete who is known as a quarterback guru will be working with the most talented quarterback he has ever had in Georgia transfer Jacob Eason. I smell double-digit wins for the Huskies this year.

Washinton State - 8 wins

My bet - Under

I love Coach Leach, but this is an emphatic under. I think the Cougars will struggle to make a bowl game this year.

Stanford - 6.5 wins

My bet - Over

I will be placing a significant wager on the over for Stanford. Like Chris Petersen up at UDub, David Shaw is a brilliant coach. Always bet on the good coaches in college football, you won’t be disappointed.

I’m so confident in this bet that I think the Cardinal will challenge for double-digit wins this year.

Cal - 6 wins

My bet - Under

I’m not sold on Justin Wilcox as a head coach. The Pac 12 is loaded with a lot of so-so teams and Cal is in the lower echelon of that group. I see the Bears missing out on a bowl game this year.

UCLA - 5.5 wins

My bet - Over

The NFL is a quarterback, GM league. Without a good GM and quarterback, you won’t win. College football is an AD, Head Coach league. Without a good head coach and athletic director, you won’t win. College football programs that win have elite leadership. My picks this year in the Pac 12 mostly come down to how good the head coach is. If you have a good head coach you will generally not disappoint.

Chip Kelly will prove he is the coach that turned Oregon into a national power by turning the corner in year 2 at UCLA. The Bruins will exceed this win total by Halloween.

USC - 7 wins

My bet - Under

Poor leadership will always cost you. While Clay Helton is a swell guy, he isn’t a very good head coach. He will be fired by the end of the season. Not that crappy AD Lynn Swann gives you any confidence the right guy will be hired to replace him, but nonetheless.

Also, the air raid at Southern Cal? Isn’t this running back U? What in the hell kind of poor decision was that?
